Introduction to kiosk mode

Kiosk mode is a feature in the SUNMI devices which we offer as our Tablet Printer. The tablet printer is a fixed purpose device which is used to receive online orders. The kiosk mode helps creating a dedicated experience on such fixed purpose devices. There can be an app set under the kiosk mode, whenever the device is running that app the user won't be able to leave that app or use any other function of the device apart from the functions available in that app. In our case, the Mytakeaway app is set up as the kiosk mode app. Mytakeaway app runs as soon as you turn on the device and once you're in the app you won't be able to go to the home screen or switch to any other app or function.

Exiting the kiosk mode

  • Why?
When the device is in the kiosk mode, the user won't even be able to access the device settings. The user someday might want to switch the wifi connection but to log in to a different wifi they would need to leave the app. Also, we might need to remotely access the device. We might need to exit the kiosk on the device due to these reason (not limiting to these).
  • How?
This is how we can exit the kiosk mode:
    • Long press the power button until you see this screen
    • Click on the 'Exit Kiosk' option on the top right of the screen. It will ask you for a 4 digit PIN
    • Enter 2122, once you enter this PIN you'll be sent to the home of the device and you'll be able to access all the settings and other apps on the device
    • As soon as you lauch the Mytakeaway app, you'll enter the kiosk mode again

Kiosk mode on SUNMI V2S devices

We have got a few reports where the SUNMI V2S model enters the kiosk mode and then it's not possible for the user to access other settings like Wifi etc. Exiting the kiosk mode does not work either. We are trying to figure out why it behaves like that but until we do, we'll not ship a v2s device to a user. If you hear from a restaurant who is seeing a prompt of kiosk mode on the screen unable to configure wifi, please have their device replaced with a v2 model device.
